Horned Cockatrice by Gomis Horned Cockatrice by Gomis
It is a cockatrice! A creature said the be the counterpart of the basilisk, usually depicted as a chicken with a lizard-like tail, or as a dragon with a rooster's head. It's said to be able to petrify people with it's glare.

I wanted my take on the cockatrice to be a mix of a rooster and a dragon. 'w' So there you have rooster-y head, body and legs, and a dragon's tail, horns and mixed wings. =w=/
I dunno why but I really like his design. I'd kinda wanna do more with him too... His name is Vasco and he's a grumpy but misunderstood creature. =w=
I was so happy to be able to draw again that I tried to color him a bit more nicely than I usually do, nyäh.

Cokcatrice originates from Greek mythology, I think.

Thanks! 83 I really like the colors in this too, even if I wanted to make him colorful they don't look goofy together.

This is a very cool creature! I love his bright colors and the way you shaded around it which makes it look like it's coming off of the paper!

Thanks! 8D I wanted to make a character with bright colors without the colors being too neon/weird so the character could still be taken seriously.
I was afraid the little shading wouldn't show 'cause it's so light, but I'm glad you saw it..! 8'3

You're welcome! Yeah, the colors make me think of bright warning colors of poisonous animals so he definitely looks dangerous. But yeah that shading around him shows up very well, at least it does on my computer. It really gives it a cool effect. =)

I always thought cockatrice/basilisks were awesome, pretty much a mix of two of my favourite creatures. 8D (aaand I can never tell the difference between the two, as usual)

I love his colours. :> He's bright coloured but keeps the evil look and all. <3 And looks somehow Italian xD'

I think basilisk's are supposed to be more snake and cockatrices more rooster, if I'm right.

Thanks. 83 I like his colors.
...Lol, now that you mention, he seems to be somewhat Italian flag colored with added black. 8''D

xD' But I remember the basilisk in the Harry Potter movie looked pretty much like a giant snake...

Well cockatrices come from Europe, anyway 8D

Basilisk originally looked just like a snake but later it started to have some more roostery features. 83

I think they both do.

It doesn't really matter, cos roosters and snakes are awesome so basilisks are naturally awesome. <3
